How it all started
HISTORY OF MENTORING
The successful Western model of mentoring embodied by “Big Brothers Big Sisters” of America (founded in 1904) and was taken as a prototype for the Mentoring program. Its goal is to help children reach their potential through professionally maintained personal relationships with volunteer mentors.
In 2009 Ukrainian orphanage specialists adapted this model to our culture by creating a mentoring methodology.
From 2009 to 2018 this model was successfully tested in Kyiv and also in thirteen regions of Ukraine. This mentoring program has successfully been adopted by organizations from six other countries.
An important achievement is the adoption of the “Law on Mentoring” in 2016 signed by the President of Ukraine. Thus Mentoring is an official form of assistance to children from boarding schools.
OUR VISION
So that every orphan child would have a trusting relationship with a significant adult mentor who will believe in him or her, make him or her feel needed and accepted, important and capable helping determine his or her talents and one of these days become independent.
