What is Mentoring and what is its purpose?

Mentoring is a voluntary, free-of-charge mentoring activity to provide a child, that lives in an institution for orphans and children deprived of parental care, individual support and assistance in preparing for an independent life.

according to the article 17, paragraph 1 of the Law of Ukraine "On ensuring the organizational and legal conditions for the social protection of orphans and children deprived of parental care
The purpose of mentoring is to prepare a child who lives in an institution for an independent life

(according to the article 3 “Mentoring Order).
Thus Mentoring is orderly professional volunteering.
Each mentor candidate undergoes training and signs a Mentoring Agreement.

What is a mentor and a pupil?

A mentor “Nastavnyk” is an adult person who builds friendly and trusting relationships with a (one) child and accepts him or her as he or she is. Becomes a significant and influential adult person who helps determine in life.
A foster child “Vykhovanets’”is a child from a boarding school or a crisis family who participates in the Mentoring program and is ready to develop a relationship with the mentor.

Take an information meeting and interview with a Lighthouse psychologist

Mentoring is one of the official forms of assistance for orphans and children deprived of parental care
On October 6, 2016, the President of Ukraine signed the Law on Mentoring.
On July 4, 2017, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Regulations on Mentoring, on the basis of which the Centers for Social Services operate.
Thanks to this, Mentoring can be scaled up in the regions to achieve the main goal - to provide every needy child from the boarding school with a mentor.
